It has been another very busy fortnight at school before half term!
We had a special day celebrating Dydd Miwsig Cymru (Welsh Language Music Day), and the children came to school dressed in red, white and green. In the morning, the children spent time in their classes listening to and voting for their favourite Welsh songs. Dosbarth Melynllyn had the opportunity to create their own music and experiment with instruments to accompany their favourite nursery rhymes.
Fortunately for Dosbarth Dulyn, Johnny from Conwy Music Service led a Djembe drumming workshop during the morning – so it was a Welsh and World Music Day for Years 3 and 4! In the afternoon, the Criw Cymraeg created a playlist following the children’s vote, and they had the chance to be DJs at our school disco.
In addition, the children in Dosbarth Crafnant have been celebrating Chinese New Year by learning about Chinese traditions, tasting food and dancing to traditional music. They have also been learning about recycling by designing and making boats from different materials and investigating which frying pan would be best for travelling to the “Isle of Man” by testing which one floated best after being filled.
The children in Dosbarth Melynllyn have been developing their digital skills by logging onto the Chromebooks and presenting and saving information about Jackdaws. They have also been learning about the world and the environment following a walk around the village, discussing and sorting natural wonders and things that have been built or created by humans.
Elin from the charity Maint Cymru visited Dosbarth Dulyn and Geirionydd to talk about Tropical Rainforests. The children in Dosbarth Dulyn learned about animals that are losing their habitats and had the opportunity to create nests for Tim Tom the orangutan using natural materials. Afterwards, they developed their knowledge further about rainforest animals by researching, drawing pictures and presenting what they had learned.
Dosbarth Geirionydd learned about the impact of cutting down rainforests on the world, including the effect on oxygen levels and global warming. They also had the opportunity to explore products grown in rainforests and discuss the advantages and disadvantages for the wider world.
Before half term, most of the class went to Glan Llyn for three days, where they enjoyed fantastic experiences with their friends. Well done to everyone for trying every activity – even the most challenging ones!
To finish the month of February, we will be holding our School Eisteddfod, and some Year 5 and 6 pupils will also have the opportunity to take part in MTB mountain biking sessions organised by Trach Trails at Parc Antur Eryri. We are hoping for good weather!
