October News
Welcome to our October newsletter! It has been an incredibly busy month across the school with all kinds of exciting activities happening in every class. From important visitors to learning about dinosaurs and the natural world, here is a look at what we have been up to.
Everyone has been busy practising for their Harvest Service by singing, presenting and thinking about ways to say THANK YOU for the goodness of the world.
In addition, our School Council have been busy starting to organising Freaky Friday and Children in Need events which will take place in November. They have also been asking the children what equipment they would like to order for break times. We look forward to when our new equipment arrives and the School Council will be demonstrating to the children how to have fun but play safely and carefully.
Dosbarth Dulyn
On grey, rainy days when the children are unable to go out to play, the mornings can be long! Therefore, after indoor break time, they have been trying out ‘Born to Move’ sessions to wake them up before going back to do some work!
PC Gareth also visited the school to discuss how to stay safe, which adults we can trust and what to do in Stranger Danger situations – both online and in the real world.
The children have also been taking part in weekly gardening sessions and also learning about some of the creatures that live around our school and at the Gwneud Traciau site and Harvesting and recognising leaves on a lovely Autumnal day!
Dosbarth Eigiau
They have been practising their performing skills and for a unique rendition of “Dau Ci Bach” and have been investigating the learning areas in the classroom, themed beautifully for Autumn.
They are loving their new role-play area, themed “Ysgol Dyffryn yr Enfys”! They can take the register and sing their greeting and farewell songs!
Dosbarth Melynllyn
They have been learning about lots of different dinosaurs so far – Gigantosaurus, Brachiosaurus, Tyrannosaurus, Jimiosaurus, Jacosaurus and many more! Some of them like to eat meat, others prefer leaves, and some even enjoy eating pizza and rice pudding!
The children also enjoyed investigating which surface had more/less friction, practising their counting in 2s, 5s and 10s along the way.
A Dinosaur Museum is coming to Melynllyn, so they have been getting ready by:
- Creating a sign for the Museum.
- Writing facts about themselves to practise our writing skills, ready to create a fact file about their favourite dinosaurs.
- Practising our two-digit number recognition and counting forwards and backwards to help when selling tickets for the museum.
Dosbarth Crafnant
The children have had a surprise visitor – a very mischievous dinosaur that gets up to all sorts of mischief when they aren’t around! The children have decided to call him 'Daniel – Y Deinosor Direidus'. There are some very creative little ones in Dosbarth Crafnant; whilst busy colouring, they even made up their own song about him!
Dosbarth Geirionydd
PC Gareth also came to talk with Dosbarth Geirionydd about stranger danger, the importance of keeping safe, and what to do if a stranger or adult makes us feel uncomfortable. The children were given very important messages to remember to keep them safe!
A huge thank you to John form ‘Wolves of the Sky’ for showing us his birds of prey! The birds were truly majestic animals! Unfortunately, we didn't get to see much of a flying display, as Reggie the Hawk flew straight to the top of a tree and sat there for half an hour! Better luck next time, hopefully!
