January News
A new year has arrived and with it some challenging weather - snow, storms and on top of that no water ! However everyone has been extremely busy at school. We are aiming to win the Welsh Language Charter gold award this year. Our Welsh group has organised activities to promote the use of the Welsh language in the school and in the community - if you are around and see our pupils we would greatly appreciate it if you spoke to them in Welsh.
We have also succeeded in receiving a grant for developing a garden on the school grounds. During the coming weeks the children will be planting trees, creating a willow tunnel and representatives from Keep Wales Tidy are also busy creating a water pond and have laid wild flower turf and each class will have their own planter for growing vegetables in the Spring.
Paul Braithwate from Llandudno FC has been holding weekly football sessions with Year 5/6 and we hope that they will have the opportunity to wear their new sports kit in competitions in the near future.
The snow came to Dolgarrog and the children had the chance to enjoy it with their friends. It was very cold but a lot of fun!
The children of Dosbarth Eigiau have been listening to the story ‘We’re going on a Bear Hunt’ and have been exploring mud! They have been repeating the story by going on an imaginary hunting trip themselves, forming letters in the mud, creating a mud pie, washing the muddy farm animals in their water trough , counting animals and repeating the story in their puppet show . We look forward to seeing where their learning goes next!
Dosbarth Crafnant have been listening to the story Whatever Next? Teddy goes into space and has a picnic on the moon. The children have been full of ideas for their learning and have been weighing and measuring moon stones, retelling the story in the small world area and using Google Earth to see how the earth looks from space.
Dosbarth Melynllyn have been practicing their DJ skills weekly with a workshop led by the Conwy Music Service. We look forward to seeing them perform soon. Their theme this term is Who made the stars above? They are very eager to learn about the solar system, the moon and the various constellations.
Dosbarth Geirionydd and Dosbarth Dulyn are reading David Walliams's book 'Granpa’s's Great Escape' which focuses on the story of Grandpa and his history in the second world war. The book also focuses on dementia and the effect it has on Grandpa and his family. The children have been listening to music from the 40s, 80s and now, researching how a paper airplane can fly and learning about Tony Ross and his artwork. Many interesting activities will follow in the coming weeks.
