It was lovely to be able to return to school and see signs of Spring approaching. We have been extremely busy finishing our garden on the field ready to see everything grow and flourish over the coming weeks. Children from the Dosbarth Melynllyn worked very hard installing our new Willow Tunnel and they are currently watering it every day. Dosbarth Dulyn also helped by scattering bark on the grass under the tunnel to ensure that it is not slippery when the children run through it in the summer.
Our water pond has also seen new life and we are looking forward to seeing the frog spawn in it change into tadpoles soon.
The children of Dosbarth Melynllyn and Dosbarth Crafnant have already been out observing and drawing the flowers that are starting to grow and also looking ar what lives in our water pond.
It's the time of year for the Eisteddfodau and some of the children have been very busy competing in the Urdd. Congratulations to the Dyffryn singing party, to Efa and Maddie for their successes and also to all the children who competed. We also had an Eisteddfod at the school and each class had the opportunity to perform and to dress in traditional dress or in the colours of Wales. It was a special afternoon watching and hearing the children.
The children were eager to have pets at school therefore a non school uniform day was held to raise funds. We managed to raise over £170 and now we have a fish tank and six bright orange fish enjoying their new home. The children will take turns to clean the tank and to look after them.
We celebrated World Book Day here and the children came to school as characters from books and they completed various activities related to their favorite books during the day.
A few children also had the opportunity to make pancakes and eat them after discovering how to do that by preparing a recipe and a method for cooking them.
In addition to all the additional activities the children have also been busy learning through their themes and Dosbarth Crafnant experimented on how to get objects to fly and Dosbarth Geirionydd investigated what was the best material for a parachute by flying them from the top floor of the school down to the parking area. Several of the eggs in the parachute were still in one piece after landing!
The children in Dosbarth Eigiau have been tidying up around the school by collecting rubbish and were rewarded with a biscuit after all their hard work. They have also been developing their Welsh vocabulary in the discovery corner by naming and connecting natural materials from the book 'Dwi'n Mynd i Hela Arth.’
