March has been an exceptionally busy month here at Dyffryn yr Enfys, filled with learning, sports, and cultural achievements!

Signs of Spring and ‘Cabin Carneddau’

We have been thoroughly enjoying nature this season! Dosbarth Crafnant went on a Signs of Spring hunt on the field, enjoying the sight of the first flowers blooming. To explore further, the children have been busy planting seeds to observe how things change and grow over time. 🌱🌸

The Reception children enjoyed their first visit of the year to ‘Cabin Carneddau’. We reflected on our time on the field spotting signs of spring, using all our senses (seeing, smelling, hearing, and touching). We discussed describing words and worked together to create a lovely collective poem.

Meeting CBFC and Sammy the Seagull

We had a very special morning recently in the company of Connor, Chelsea, and Sammy the Seagull from Colwyn Bay Football Club. They gave a valuable presentation on the importance of staying healthy and fit. The children were brilliant at answering questions about health and wellbeing, and they absolutely loved meeting Sammy!

Note: The club is always looking for new players and fans - contact details can be found on their Facebook page.

Dosbarth Geirionydd: Busy in the Community

Dosbarth Geirionydd has been very hardworking this month across several projects:

  • Mountain Biking: Their skills are improving every week thanks to Ed and Al from PEDAL-MTB. It was a very productive session where everyone challenged themselves and practised new skills.
  • Trash Free Trail: The class worked hard litter picking this week. We split into two groups; one tidied around the bike track and glamping pods, while the other went around the Cog garden, Dolgarrog park, and up and down part of Gwydyr Road. We collected an entire black bag! Well done to everyone for helping the local environment.
  • Cemetery Planning: They also worked on a project to design an extension for Trefriw cemetery. Jasmine and Kim (Trefriw Council) and Ned (Head Gardener at Bodnant Gardens) visited to discuss the plans, and they will be using the children’s creative ideas in the real project!

Celebrating the Spring Equinox with Dosbarth Dulyn and Dosbarth Geirionydd!

The pupils of Dosbarth Dulyn and Dosbarth Geirionydd  had a wonderful morning as we celebrated the arrival of Spring!

To mark the Equinox, the class went for a walk around the local area to look for signs that nature is waking up. It was a fantastic opportunity to use our senses as we listened to the birds singing and looked for the first splashes of colour in the hedgerows and gardens.

From snowdrops to new buds on the trees, there was so much to see! We are so happy to welcome this new season together.

World Book Day and James’ Creatures

World Book Day 2026 was celebrated in style with fantastic costumes. Dosbarth Geirionydd became emoji detectives by guessing book titles, while Dosbarth Dulynhas been reading James and the Giant Peach. As part of their work, they created the story's creatures out of clay—measuring legs, bodies, and antennae with great precision!

Dosbarth Melynllyn: Fun with Fractions!

There was a very sweet afternoon in Dosbarth Melynllyn as the children learned about fractions in a very practical way! They practised their numeracy skills by dividing chocolate bars into equal portions. It was a big challenge to ensure everyone had a fair share, but they succeeded in dividing them carefully—and yes, everyone got a tasty piece to enjoy at the end!

Developing Skills in the Learning Areas

The pupils of Dosbarth Melynllyn have been a hive of activity this month, developing their literacy, numeracy, creative, and digital competency skills across the classroom areas. From creating imaginative stories to using educational apps, it is great to see the independence and eagerness to learn that the children have.

Experimenting with Capacity

As part of their Numeracy activities, Dosbarth Melynllyn has been focusing on capacity. The children had the opportunity to sort, measure, compare, and order different containers while discussing and experimenting. This hands-on work has been a brilliant way to master measuring volume while having a bit of fun with water and other materials!
