It was lovely to welcome the children back to school after the summer holidays. It was also wonderful to welcome the Nursery children into the school for the first time. They have already settled in well and are enjoying learning in the company of their new friends.
The rest of the children have settled well in their new classes too. Dosbarth Crafnant have been busy planning activities to go with their Dau Gi Bach theme - they will be completing a variety of indoor and outdoor tasks that relate to the theme and will be starting their Forest School Sessions soon. They have been printing with dog biscuits and retelling the story in the small world area. We are looking forward to seeing them develop their learning in the coming weeks.
In Dosbarth Melynllyn they have been sharing ideas about Welsh Heroes and have started to learn about Gelert and life in the middle ages. They have been building unique castles in the creating area and listening and evaluating medieval music. They have been using their knowledge of numbers to arrange dates and using their mathematics cross-curricularly. As part of their learning they have been keen to learn about jesters. They are hoping that they will also be given the opportunity to entertain their friends soon!
The children in Dosbarth Dulyn and Geirionydd have been asking questions about Wales in order to develop their learning. Dosbarth Geirionydd climbed Snowdon as a ‘spark’ for their theme and they were highly praised for reaching the summit and for facing the challenge. Arwel Roberts from Llanrwst Town Council came to the school to share information about Dafydd Ap Siencyn and the festival. The children had the opportunity to dress up like someone from that period. Two pupils - Lleucu and Lucie were successful and awarded the 1st and 2nd prize in the Dafydd ap Siencyn Festival poster design competition.
The children have been listening to versions from of Land of my Fathers and choosing their favourite. They will be performing their own version and designing a unique poster as a gift . It was also Owain Glyndwr Dayalso in the middle of the month and was a good opportunity for the children to learn about one of the princes of Wales.
Joe from Chance to Shine has also been running weekly cricket sessions with children from Yr 2- Yr 6 as well, and it is was a pleasure to hear the children taking part in the sessions full of energy and enthusiasm. We look forward once again to a busy and successful year ahead!
